I think Powell articulated why he's endorsing Obama very well. As an another commenter earlier pointed out, often an vote "for" someone is really just a vote "against" the opponent. Maybe McCain's choice of Palin, his abandoning all his principles, and his ugly campaign were factors in making Powell choose Obama...

I'd like to give him the benefit of doubt that it is more than just race...

I agree that I wish he'd sung a different tune when re: WMD. And I personally find it hard to be a huge fan of anyone who voluntarily worked closely with Bush. So fair point in that he's standing up for his beliefs now (when it is potentially easier) rather than earlier, on Iraq.

However, I still think that this is one of the best endorsements I've seen - he just nails it. And I love the fact he calls out the anti-muslim (or rather anti-non-christian) bigotry that is so prevalent.

I honestly believe Powell is supporting him because he is black, traditionally Powell is very conservative, and he is a proud Bush supporter... So if he doesn't agree with the issuses, he must agree with his color.

in general, i still respect Colin Powell... just wish he had the courage of his convictions 5-6 years ago in addition to last week.

After all, as a judge of character, this is the man who said "Dick Cheney would make an Excellent Vice President". I'm sure he's similarly correct about Obama.

This in the same week where he got on stage and sang a song (potentially glorifying) money laundering in Nigeria

Also, when you see his economic justification on how Obama understands the economy, you see that Mr. Powell is actually a big bit leftie. When he talks about "redistributing wealth",shouldn't he really be a Democrat. They're the ones who believe it's okay to rob (oh wait! they call it TAX) from those who worked for it to give to those who didn't.

Tell me, how is raising corporate taxes and cutting income taxes really a tax cut or in any way fiscal stimulus. Maybe Mr. Powell should have stuck to making false statements to the UN about WMDs in Iraq (if he says it, doesn't he bear responsibility for checking his data?)

Oh well, when you guys have the USSR (United State Socialist Republic), with Democrats in charge of the Presidence, Congress, and a filibuster proof Senate, maybe you'll really see corporate flight
