    • I'd note, though, that the FT model has not won them a lot of fans. They started with 30 monthly articles for free, then dropped it to 20; now it's down to 3. I think this approach can work...

This morning I was in a meeting and finally held a real iPhone and played around with it, but told the group that no, I wouldn’t be getting one quite yet. BUT…

  • Actually, I'm not sure that Apple will respond quickly. What's really in it for them to fix it (other than AT&T's panicked requests?)

    Sales will go up since people, like Shripriya, will now buy more unlocked iPhones. And Apple (presumably) makes the majority of its money on the hardware.

    Now, if I was AT&T, I guess I would be trying to use the Orwellian DCMA to try and restrain people from modifying something they OWN- even though Congress has expressly excluded cell-phones (why?!)... oh wait, AT&T HAS decided to threaten lawsuits. What a surprise!
