Almost As Good As Chocolate: Green Dimes

This sounds almost too good to be true. Keep us posted.

Let me know how it goes. I read MD's post, too, and was thinking of checking it out.
  • megha · 2 years ago
    Is this for real?

Wow. If this works out for you, I might have to check it out too as I am the most anal person I know when it comes to recycling.

Great to know you, came here from Amit's blog. I will check this service. I get over 100 mails and some are surely spams.

@ TGFI and JSK - will do. As Michael said in his comments, just the tree planting alone is probably worth the $36 dollars!

@ Megha - It seems to be. It is new enough that I haven't seen anyone talk about how effective it is, but I am rooting for them. This is one of those life-changing things if it works. Will keep you posted.

@AjiNIMC - Great to hear. FYI, just to be clear, this is for real mail/snail mail, not email.

Here's a hint about catalogs. I saved all my catalogs for three months, to make sure I had time to receive at least one of everything. Then I removed duplicates (making sure to keep one copy for each addressee at my home), and THEN I canceled them at Green Dimes. My thought was that I would be less likely to cancel something twice that way (thus ending up BACK on their evil lists).

I signed up for Green Dimes last April, and have definitely noticed a reduction in our junk mail.

Karen - great idea. I will follow your method and see if I can rid myself of the pesky catalogs!

Fake... I signed up over a month ago and have not had any noticeable decrease in junk mail.

Love GreenDimes, been using them for 6 months now, the key is to login and update your unsubscribe list..

Hi Shri! I was just looking into subscribing to Green Dimes and your review popped up as the second hit on Google. Have you found it to be effective?

Hope you are keeping well. I just got back from India so let's have dosas soon.

Right now, greendimes.org is offering their annual service for $20! This includes stopping the junk mail and planting ten trees.

    GreenDimes here,

Thanks for the spreading the word. We really appreciate it.
  • Shripriya · 1 year ago
@Alieda - it actually has worked for us. We are seeing less junk. As Mikey mentions above, if you want it to work on your catalogs too, you just need to keep the ones you want to unsubscribe from, go over to the greendimes site and add them to the list to be removed. The reason to be careful is b/c if you add a catalog you actually don't receive the icky catalog company will then *add* you to the list!

I know we keep missing each other - why don't you come by this week?

@ihatespam - you have to give it longer than a month

@Mikey - yep, you are right!

@Natalie - thanks for the heads up.

@Sanjdimes - Happy to... glad it works!

Hey there - Tried signing up for Green Dimes, keeps declining my payment, though I know the problem is not on my end. Anybody have similar problems? I want to do this, but they won't take my money!

Can you suggest a similar service that has a working shopping cart?

@ihatespam: it takes 3 months before you'll notice a difference - says so on the site
  • Shripriya · 1 year ago
@Bob Nolin - Have you tried to contact support on their site? I am sure they would try to resolve the issue immediately to enable you to sign up and pay... Good luck!

And it is definitely working for me!

The problem is companies make it way to hard to go green and have paperless filings. There should be a simple box to tick and you would be done with it. Instead you have to fill out a zillion forms.

Even though your comment makes sense, you are so clearly here b/c of that stupid page rank post. How lame that you have to resort to such methods to promote your site! Lol.

I spent A LOT of time - every day for weeks registering EVERY piece of junk mail that I received - especially sales magazines. I have to say it was nearly a 100% WASTE OF TIME. In several cases, I even contacted the sender directly as I was told to do by Green Dimes (not sure what the service that they provided there was) Even though I was confirmed that nearly all of my entries would cease - I continue to receive TONS of junk every day - including the ones that I opted out of... The holiday level of junk mail was unprecedented - 6 months out from my registering! I would love to hear about a site that REALLY does end junk mail. Don't waste your time with Green Dimes

It makes sense. I alway wondered why we have a "Do not call list" but don't have a "Do not mail register"

This is a great idea. My friend, who is a high schooler, also has a site called Shield of Green which performs the same service as Green Dimes. Keep up the good work.
