hehe. quaint indeed. i wonder if one wrote to them, would they write back saying that one had been unsubscribed?

We probably would - we like mail. :) And if you include a self-addressed stamped envelope, we'll even send back FeedBurner stickers and buttons. Details here: http://flickr.com/photos/feedburner/272428336/

    Cheers,

@ TGFI - you have your answer!

@ Traci - thanks for the information! The sticker idea is a great idea - very cute. I love how startups and smaller companies actually care enough to respond to these blog posts. You just made me an even bigger fan of Feedburner!

Been doing some spamming (I mean email marketing) the last few month so I found this out just recently too. Can-Spam law requires the company sending the email to provide their physical address AND a way for customer to write in to opt out.

Hi Will - I had a small inkling that legal requirements may be what made them have that line in there... but I've never seen that before and I get tons of junk (oops, marketing) emails.

Does that mean that most people are not complying with the Can-Spam rules?

    http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/can...

"It requires that commercial email be identified as an advertisement and include the sender's valid physical postal address. Your message must contain clear and conspicuous notice that the message is an advertisement or solicitation and that the recipient can opt out of receiving more commercial email from you. It must include your valid physical postal address."

It appears that way that most companies do not comply. . . however the law doesnt say how large or in what color the address needs to be. . . I found this at the bottom of my ebay emails.. . . in tiny tiny font :)

"eBay is located at 2145 Hamilton Avenue, San Jose, CA 95125."

Thanks for the info, Will. I just checked a recent eBay email and saw the line...

Ah, 2145 Hamilton - such fond memories :)
