Almost As Good As Chocolate: Enjoying the rain

I think it comes with "nice, professional clothes" (especially suits & other woolen stuff) and "doing your own laundry" :-)

I did the something like that the other day.. biked in the pouring rain. Glasses fogging up and everything. While other people decided to be wise and wait till it subsided. I loved it! :) Yes, coming home to a hot cup of tea rounds it off well.

i have not been getting your posts in my bloglines feed!

Wow - that evening sounds straight from Singin' in the Rain - minus the singing - was there singing?

    Let the stormy clouds chase
    Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain I've a smile on my face
I walk down the lane with a happy refrain
Just singin and singin in the rain!

I love rain paraphernalia - oversized umbrellas and rain-boots - when I was a kid I was crazy about paper boats and oil rainbows but now there are never any good puddles thanks to all the sophisticated drainage systems and smooth roads. The next time it rains I'm going to splash about as you suggest :-)

@Krishna - The professional clothes are an acceptable excuse, but doing your own laundry?? :) Just throw the stuff in the washer! But, yesterday was the weekend anyway - there were still very few people braving the elements unprotected (but there were a few!)

@TGFI - The whole experience is much better in the summer when the weather is good. Doing this in the fall would be extremely unpleasant to say the least!

Hmm... filed a complaint with bloglines. Let's see what they say.

@Prithvi - I seriously thought about dancing and prancing - or more specifically opening my arms out wide, tipping my face to the sky and whirling around. But then I felt a bit silly since there were people about. Maybe next time :) And when you do your singing in the rain routine, be sure to let me know!

Wish I could gather up the courage to do the same. I can't even stand tepid water when bathing, it has to be hot!

Reading this post reminded me of the book "Peace is every step" by Thich Hat Hahn. The message is essentially to be in the present for the present is very beautiful and that the present is all that matters. Walking in the rain and really being there is a wonderful feeling most of us never revisit after childhood. It might rain in Columbus today and if I am lucky, I will not avoid the rain. Thanks for the great post!

@tgfi - thanks! Please do let me know if it stops again.

@mumbaigirl - I'm with you on the bath thing, but funnily enough, if the day is warm, the rain doesn't feel that cold.

@Prakash - Tell me - did you do it?! :)

Hah. I think you're spot on. Initially, when you get caught in the rain, all you can think about is: "oh man, these are nice clothes" or "my iphone is going to get soaked". But after you get past a certain "breaking point" -- perhaps four or five blocks, you're alright with it and actually end up enjoying yourself. And then the people standing under the awnings look like the odd ones out.

By the way, I parodied this exact "rain vs growing up" thing once:
